HMD Global continues the Nokia story – Lexia involved in supporting international growth efforts

You feel more at ease at the negotiating table when you know that the best technology law expertise is on your side.

In 2016, HMD Global’s announcement as the new home for Nokia phones was a positive surprise for many – Finnish heritage of Nokia phones would carry on. For the past couple of years, HMD Global has taken a start-up approach in developing its operations with a well-known brand.

Global feedback for Nokia phones has been encouraging – the company has introduced several new devices, agreed on global collaboration with the industry’s leading players, like Google, and signed strategic collaboration agreements with Nokia and FIH. In February 2018, HMD Global announced that it would become Google’s main partner in its Android One flagship program.

Lexia’s experienced team has worked with HMD Global on matters related to technology agreements, consumer protection, data protection, and labor law, among others. We offer additional resources for HMD Global’s own legal team when needed.

“Lexia has supported us with complex technology licensing deals, involving e.g. software and hardware engineering and data protection aspects. Lexia has proven to be very capable in working with these areas and supporting our deals under tight deadlines. Their experience and competence in complex technology licensing deals has been valuable for our projects, and it has been a pleasure to work with Lexia.” says Associate General Counsel, Päivi Pekkanen.

Lexia’s technology team includes prior inhouse counsels who have extensive experience in international business agreements and legal support for technology companies.

“HMD Global’s business is dynamic and global, making it very interesting for a lawyer. The issues coming to the table are really diverse, and the parties on the other side of the table are often major international players,” says Counsel Susanna Sariola who assists HMD Global.
